At the Core: The Individual.
Corporate media should consider that, most of all, people are interested in other people. This is why the individual should be at the core of a publication.

At the Core. One of the characteristic features of "Commerzielles" is their interest in individual members of their company's staff. The above example shows a four-page article on a deaf employee, which is brilliantly introduced by a combination of photographs and text evoking immediate attention. The last page is devoted to a single photo. The article is enriched by service boxes containing tips on deafness. The layout of these four pages offers the readers dif ferent ways of access to this topic.
The Group. This page is from the same magazine and indicates a topic which forms a regular contribution: How do employees spend their free time? This group meets at regular intervals for board games. The relaxed and joyful atmosphere in the photo speaks for itself.
Get Talking I. The talk between these two men is introduced on this double page from "Zoom" by the Italian concern AET (Azienda Elettrica Ticinese) with two full-length portaits and quotes, the headline of the interview and a lead.
Get Talking II. Biographical data can be found on the left and right below the hard-edge photos.
Get Talking III. The cut here is even more radical, but does not spoil the image as the two characters have already been introduced full-length. Below the photos, there are three important statements from their discussion.
Newsflashes with Pictures. With "Team live" by UniCredit Group news about individual members are gathered on a double page. The captions are placed above or below the double row of photos and fine lines connect each caption with the appropriate shot.
Tips on Photographic Cut
Some editorial staffs still shy away from hard cuts with portraits. Not every portrait lends itself to such a device, and with group photos extreme cuts will simply look strange. But extreme formats and clever cuts can achieve a fantastic effect - a concentration on the essentials. Another possibility is a' portrait' of a person's hands as a complimentary sight to the genuine portrait.
